The Use Of Oral Bandages And Packings - Essential After Periodontal Surgery
It is important to take care of the mouth after periodontal surgery to ensure its success. Oral packings or oral bandages are often placed for protection. You can immediately call your dentist if the loss of oral bandage cause bleeding, discomfort or concern. You should try to refrain from consuming very hot beverages as they may soften and loosen the bandage as the bandage is sensitive to temperature.
Ice packs are also useful and should be applied to the face over the surgical area as this is helpful in reducing the swelling and bleeding. Make sure that the application of the ice pack for the first 4 to 6 hours should be on-and-off. Call your dentist immediately if swelling interferes with swallowing, closes your eye, or interferes with breathing.
